About Dr. Cuomo

Dr. Joseph D Cuomo is a Staten Island Native who is a board-qualified podiatric foot and ankle surgeon. He completed his surgical residency training at Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) in 2025, where he was chief resident. He served as Public Safety Committee Chair for the 2024 and 2025 years, helping with research and policy-changing tasks for RUMC. Dr. Cuomo has also published 3 papers to medical journals, including the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery-FASTRAC and the Journal of Medical Virology. Dr. Cuomo’s training has encompassed both surgical and non-surgical podiatric needs such as foot and ankle injuries, tendinitis/tendinopathy, bunions, hammertoes, diabetic foot care, heel pain/plantar fasciitis, ingrown/fungal toenails, warts, and skin disorders.

Dr. Cuomo graduated from undergrad at Wagner College with a bachelor’s and master’s in microbiology and was a part-time graduate assistant for microbiology. Once graduated he became a microbiologist at both RWJ New Brunswick and RWJ Rahway. Seeking a more direct path in wanting to treat patients, he went on to achieve his doctorate in podiatry at New York College of Podiatric Medicine. In residency, he had extensive training upon a multitude of areas in the podiatric specialty, ranging from wound care to cutting-edge MIS (minimal incision surgery) training for foot surgeries.

When Dr. Cuomo is not continuing his studies in new podiatric techniques and advancements, he enjoys playing guitar, traveling, and following up with his favorite sports teams.
