request an appointmentWhat is a neuroma?
A neuroma is a nerve in the foot (more often than not between the metatarsal bones) that has been inflamed due to mechanical irritation. This irritation causes the nerve to swell and and cause symptoms such as pain, tingling, burning and numbness in the affected sensory areas to the nerve.
How is a neuroma diagnosed?
A neuroma may be diagnosed clinically but confirmed with advanced radiological imaging techniques such as ultrasound and MRI.
How is a neuroma treated?
Dr. Patel uses a multimodal treatment approach that includes conservative treatment protocols such as modification of footwear, specialized padding, custom orthotics, injections with ultrasound guidance, oral anti-inflammatories and steroids and nerve flossing. Dr. Patel, as a regenerative medicine specialist, also offers amniotic injections to potentially help relieve inflammation and pain while helping the nerve to regenerate. In rare cases, surgery is the final solution by either nerve decompression or neurectomy (resection of the affected nerve)
